Full Description
The University of Iowa Department of Anesthesia is seeking qualified anesthesiologists with interest and expertise in a variety of clinical areas to join our team. Opportunities are available in general anesthesia and several subspecialties, including Ambulatory, Cardiovascular/Thoracic, Neurosurgical, Obstetrical, Pediatric, and Regional and Acute Pain Medicine. Department leadership positions also are available for highly qualified individuals.

About Us

The UI Department of Anesthesia has its roots in the first formal anesthesiology residency program to be established at an American university. Today, the Department boasts more than 80 faculty members, 66 CRNAs, 57 residents, and 12 fellows who provide clinical anesthesia services for more than 50 operating rooms at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, as well as procedural anesthesia services for Pediatrics, Radiology, and nearly 20 other surgical and non-surgical clinics and specialty suites. This broad range of services places the Department in the 99th percentile for diversity of surgical cases among U.S. hospitals.

Departmental faculty serve on editorial boards of major anesthesiology journals, provide refresher courses for the American Society of Anesthesiologists annual meeting, and serve as board examiners for the American Board of Anesthesiology. Department researchers are funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, and non-governmental organizations. The Department has an extensive and well- organized mentoring program for junior faculty and is proud of its tradition of providing a wide range of career development opportunities.

The Carver College of Medicine is ranked as one of the nation’s best public medical schools and offers a full range of accredited residency and fellowship programs. Its thriving research enterprise has received $2 billion in NIH funding over the past decade.
